Well, everyone who knows me, or reads my blog, knows that I have been blessed with two amazing talented sons who have certain disabilities that they have to work at overcoming. But sometimes I wonder, do my pets have special needs too?
Meet Mokey
Meet Mokey
Mokey is a huge 130lb dog who is scared of small toys that light up or make any kind of noises. She will try to crawl into your lap out of fear if the boys start battling each other with their plastic toy light sabers. Yet, if she sees the postman or another dog walk by, she will attack the front door growling and barking like she is some kind of ferocious hell beast.
Mokey refuses to go anywhere west from our house when she goes on walks because she saw fireworks in that direction one time. If it is raining or if it is too cold, she will not go outside and do her business until she is physically pulled by the collar and dragged out into the yard. Most importantly though, this 130 pound dog is terrified of our 12 pound cat.
Which brings me too.....
Stormy
Stormy has been with me for over 11 years and she has never missed a meal in her life. Yet if she has less than a cup worth of food in her bowl, she will follow us around the house meowing pathetically while giving us deep soulful stares as if she is about to fall over dead from starvation at any minute. To be even more demanding, Stormy is very particular about her diet. She will only eat expensive Special Systems kitty food or cheap cans of "dirty" tuna (she snubs her nose at the nice white albacore stuff). If we make the mistake of buying her generic cat food instead, she will eat it, turn around and walk pass 10ft of easily cleanable wood floors, only to vomit mouthfuls of half-chewed cat food onto our pillows just to prove a point.
Stormy enjoys the typical kitty activities, such as grooming herself extensively for hours and long chin rubs. However, her most favorite thing to do is to play messed up mind games with the dog. For example, she will drink from the dog's water bowl or curl up in the dog's bed, all while glaring at the dog disdainfully. Occasionally, she spices things up by jumping over the Mokey at unexpected times in order to scare the crap out of her. Poor Mokey always gets a very worried expression on her face whenever she sees the cat come around (yes dogs can look worried).
So what do you think they need? Group therapy? Anti-psychotic medications?
At least they are quirky enough to fit in perfectly with this family.
